Basic vs Extended: which plan to choose
The two plans at a glance
There are two levels of cover. Basic provides around 100,000 UAH (≈ €2,300) of medical expenses and suits short, low-risk visits. Extended raises the limit to €30,000 and adds passive war-risk protection. Both are issued for 3 to 180 days and delivered instantly as a PDF.
What both plans include
Every plan covers emergency medical care in Ukraine: hospitalisation, outpatient treatment, doctor call-outs, ambulance transport, prescribed medicine and emergency dental care, plus medical evacuation and repatriation. COVID-19 treatment is included on the same basis as other illnesses.
What Extended adds
The Extended plan increases the medical limit to €30,000 and adds passive war-risk cover for unintentional injuries from military events during your trip — something standard policies exclude. It also includes the 24/7 multilingual assistance line, which is why most travellers to Ukraine choose it.
The price difference
Cover is priced per day. Basic starts at €3.30 for three days and adds about €1.00 per extra day; Extended starts at €5.32 for three days and adds about €1.60 per extra day. The gap is small, so the extra protection of the Extended plan usually costs only a little more.
Optional extensions
You can add a radiation extension, which increases the relevant limit by about 3.5× for radiation-related emergencies. Optional add-ons let you tailor the policy to your trip without paying for cover you do not need.
Which one is right for you
Choose Basic for a brief, routine visit where you simply need valid cover. Choose Extended if you want the higher limit, war-risk protection and round-the-clock assistance — recommended for almost everyone travelling to Ukraine under current conditions.
