Crossing the Ukrainian border with insurance
What to have ready on arrival
Keep four things easy to reach: your passport, your visa (if you need one), your travel medical insurance PDF, and proof of your onward plans or accommodation. Having the insurance policy number visible alongside your passport makes any check quick and smooth.
Digital or printed — both work
Your policy is issued as a PDF. You can show it on your phone or hand over a printout — both are accepted. A printed copy is a useful backup in case your phone battery is low or there is no signal at a land border.
The check, step by step
At the checkpoint an officer reviews your passport and visa, may ask the purpose and length of your visit, and can request proof of valid medical insurance. Once your documents are in order your passport is stamped and you are admitted. Cover begins on the start date printed on your policy.
Every checkpoint, every mode of travel
A policy from a Ukraine-licensed insurer is recognised at Ukrainian border crossings nationwide, however you arrive in the country, and is valid throughout the territory of Ukraine.
If you are asked for insurance
Stay calm and present the PDF or read out the policy number. The document clearly shows your name, the cover amount and the valid dates. Because the policy is issued by a licensed insurer and accepted nationwide, a valid certificate resolves the question immediately.
Common mistakes to avoid
The usual slip-ups are easy to prevent: dates that start after your arrival, a name that does not match the passport, or cover that ends before your trip does. Double-check these before you travel, and buy early so the policy is in your inbox well before departure.
Border crossing FAQ
Will I be asked for insurance at the Ukrainian border?
You may be. Officers can request proof of valid medical insurance for your stay, so keep your policy ready alongside your passport.
Is a phone copy of the policy enough?
Yes. A PDF on your phone is accepted; a printed copy is a sensible backup at land borders.
When does my cover actually start?
On the start date you set when buying. Make sure it is on or before your arrival date.
Is the policy valid at land borders too?
Yes. It is accepted at Ukrainian border crossings nationwide and is valid across the country.
What if my dates change at the last minute?
Buy a policy matching your new dates before you travel, or contact support — refunds are available up to three days before the start date.
